Whale Branch put up another strong performance in the run game, the defense looked solid, and the Warriors were able to come up with big plays in key moments to hold on for a 20-18 home win over Edisto for their first Region 5-2A win Friday.

The Warriors’ offense relied on their rushing attack fueled by senior Dayaun Brown and junior quarterback Jermon Bowers. Bowers ran for 117 yards and a touchdown, while Brown added 89 yards and found the end zone twice.

Edisto was coming off a lopsided loss to Hampton County, and Whale Branch’s defense and relentless rushing attack proved too much to handle. The Cougars struggled to stop Whale Branch’s run-heavy offense, which made it difficult for them to get any momentum going.

Whale Branch’s defense played a pivotal role in the victory, consistently shutting down offensive drives and maintaining control of the game. The Warriors’ defense was relentless, and their ability to consistently come up with big plays was crucial in preventing Edisto from gaining any real offensive rhythm.

Whale Branch’s defensive line was especially dominant, winning battles in the trenches and controlling the run game, while the secondary kept the passing attack mostly quiet.

This victory gives Whale Branch a much-needed confidence boost heading into the final stretch of the season, proving that the earlier losses were just a bump in the road. With their ability to dominate on the ground, Whale Branch remains a formidable opponent in their division and will be a team to watch in the upcoming weeks with opportunities to knock off highly ranked Hampton County and Barnwell upcoming.

This game served as a reminder at just how potent Whale Branch’s run game can be when it’s clicking. The offense seems to be on a roll now, and it looks like the rest of the team will follow suit. The Warriors hope to continue to build momentum when they host Lake Marion for another region matchup Friday.
