Burton Fire District handles 5 storm related calls

Between Sunday night and Monday morning, the Burton Fire District responded to five storm related calls, including a tree falling on a home that displaced a family, according to a news release.
Just before 7 a.m. Monday, Burton firefighters responded to a reported tree down on a home on Alexandra Loop in the Majestic Mobile Home Park. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a large tree that had uprooted and fallen on the home, blocking both the front and back doors, and causing unknown structural damage. The family escaped by climbing out of the windows.
Burton firefighters secured power to the home and assisted the family in gathering belongings. The family was displaced and believed to be staying with friends.
In 2020, the Burton Fire District responded to two major storm related calls at Alexandra Loop, to include a tree falling on a home that displaced a family of nine, including six children. The Red Cross assisted that family.
Also just past 7 a.m. Monday, Burton firefighters and Beaufort County EMS responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Trask Parkway in the Grays Hill area by Big Road. Firefighters and EMS personnel arrived on scene and found a single vehicle with front end damage after striking a low hanging power line. The driver sustained minor injuries that were treated by paramedics and EMTs on scene.
The three other storm related calls occurred between 5:15 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. Monday for trees and wires down across the road in the Seabrook and Detour Road areas of Beaufort County, and again just past 11 a.m., firefighters responded for wires down on Burton Wells Road.
