Battery Creek boys basketball picked up its first win of the season Thursday in Clover, closing out the Bennie Bennett Memorial Tournament with a 48-43 win over Mid-Carolina.

After a series of close calls, the Dolphins finally broke through with a second-half comeback after a sluggish start in their tourney finale. Trailing 17-12 at halftime, Creek clawed within two going to the fourth quarter and put up 20 points in the final frame to surge to its first win.

Noah Northway poured in 19 points for the Dolphins, while Donyae Brown added 10 to cap off an All-Tournament Team performance. Te’Shaun Heyward contributed nine points, and Will White had six for Creek.

“It was good to have time away to focus on us for three days,” Creek coach CJ Brown said. “We had team meetings after every game and dug deep into each player. Everyone left the tournament knowing how good we are and ready to put together a whole 32 minutes of basketball.”

The Dolphins (1-11) open region play at Academic Magnet on Friday.
