VETERAN OF THE WEEK: CHARLOTTE AYERS

Beaufort’s Ayers, 87, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Wisconsin in 1952 during the Korean War. She served for five years, married another Marine and moved to Beaufort where she joined the Naval Reserve with annual training on the East Coast, England, Scotland and Germany.

She also and worked as a civilian on Parris Island and at Naval Hospital Beaufort. Ayers retired as a Chief Petty Officer and is a former commander of American Legion Beaufort Post 9.
