Free public meeting set for Jan. 14 on Zoom

The League of Women Voters Beaufort Area will host its first meeting of 2021 online at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14. An Honest Dialogue About Diversity and Inclusion will be led by Charmaine Clowney, one of the nation’s leading experts on employment law, federal contract anti-discrimination compliance laws, harassment prevention, and diversity and organizational change.
The Zoom meeting is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. Either access the live registration link at the league website, www.LWVBeaufort.org or on Facebook at the League of Women Voters Beaufort Area page or access the meeting at https://bit.ly/38hgJcm.
After registering, participants will receive a confirmation email with instructions for joining the meeting.
Beaufort LWV President Jane Caffrey said Clowney is nationally known as an expert on diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as a humorous and engaging speaker.
“This is a topic our league is pursuing as a major priority in 2021 and beyond,” she said in a release. “In fact, we have formed a committee to help us educate ourselves and the general public. We welcome new members and greater participation.”
Clowney is an attorney, speaker, author, trainer, and educator. She is Assistant District Director for the US Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and has investigated workplace discrimination and harassment complaints.
She has also held executive Vice-Chancellor leadership positions with prominent universities including the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Office of the Chancellor.
