The body of a missing man, whose boat was discovered capsized this past week near Harbor Island, was found Thursday, Nov. 19.
Don McCullock, 50, from the greater Charleston area, died in the incident, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased,” said Lt. Cmdr. Christie Connell, search and rescue mission coordinator with Coast Guard Sector Charleston.
The search for the missing man and another, found alive, started on Tuesday, Nov. 17 after the boat they were fishing from capsized near the south end of St. Helena Sound.
The two, who are unrelated, had been out fishing earlier on Tuesday and were reported missing by a family member who said they were overdue.
The 27-foot vessel was found just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a Coast Guard spokesman Mack Marcenelle. A rescue swimmer deployed from a Coast Guard helicopter found no signs of the missing men on board.
On Wednesday, a good Samaritan found one of the men about 18 nautical miles southeast of where the boat had sunk, Marcenelle said. The man was lifted to a Coast Guard helicopter and flown to Memorial Health in Savannah.
