BA sweeps St. Andrew’s in home opener
Beaufort Academy volleyball swept to a 3-0 win over visiting St. Andrew’s in their home opener Thursday.
Chase Vaigneur collected a team-high 11 kills to go with seven assists and five aces, while Margaret Heirs added five aces, seven assists, and seven digs for the Eagles.
Mary Hanna Hiers anchored the defense with 13 digs, while Maddie Nelson contributed four aces, three kills, and one block.
JPII puts up fight vs. tough Cathedral squad
John Paul II volleyball traveled to Charleston for the second time in a week to face another strong opponents, as SCISA 1A runner-up Cathedral Academy overcame a hard fight from the Golden Warriors to earn a sweep.
JPII put up quite a fight, especially in the second set, but the Generals were able to secure a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-17) victory despite what JPII coach Louise Sanders called her team’s best effort of the season.
Senior co-captain Bella Termini led the team with three kills and anchored the defense, while junior co-captain Caroline Gilmour added two kills.

Greene, Keisling win; Lions sweep team titles at SCISA opener
Holy Trinity’s boys recorded a perfect score and the girls also put together a winning performance in the season-opening cross country meet for area private schools.
The Lions claimed the top five spots in the boys race with Luke Greene leading the way, scoring a perfect 15 points to easily outpace John Paul II (52) and Beaufort Academy (107). Lowcountry Montessori and Community Bible Church Christian Academy did not field full teams.
Holy Trinity nearly swept the girls race, as well, as eighth-grader Elise Marquardt led the way for the Lions, who claimed five of the top eight spots. CBCCA’s Ashleigh Keisling won the individual title.

Depth helps Eagles hold off Bobcats
Beaufort High girls tennis opened the season with a hard-fought 4-2 win over region rival Bluffton on Tuesday.
The Bobcats claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but the Eagles showcased their depth to sweep the remaining three singles courts and win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the victory. Anson Daniel, Madeline Contare, and Elizabeth Holloway each earned singles victories for the Eagles, while Gracie Cunningham and Juliana Lane teamed up to win their doubles match.
Golden Warriors top BA first ‘W’
John Paul II girls tennis picked up its first win of the season with a convincing 7-1 victory at Beaufort Academy on Thursday.
The Golden Warriors claimed five of the six singles courts and swept the two completed doubles matches, while the No. 3 doubles contest was halted due to darkness after the match started late to avoid the excessive afternoon heat.
Trice McClure, Paige Weniger, Madi Johnson, Charlotte Bauer, and K.C. Moton all won singles matches for JPII, while Ansleigh Pingree earned the only win for BA. McClure and Samantha Reilly won at No. 1 doubles, while Weniger and Johnson teamed up to win at No. 2.
