Port Royal boat landing to close

The Port Royal Boat Landing (The Sands), will be closed for repairs on Thursday, Jan. 23. The boat landing is scheduled to reopen Friday, Jan. 24. The project schedule is dependent on the weather.

Parris Island holding live fire training

Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island will be conducting extended live fire training Jan. 27-29 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The marsh and waterways in the range impact area to include Archers Creek, Ribbon Creek, and Edding Creek will be closed to boater traffic.

Republican Women’s Club holding membership drive luncheon

The Beaufort Republican Women’s Club will hold its annual Membership Drive Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. February 22 at the Dataw Island Club at 121 Dataw Dr., St. Helena Island.

State representative Shannon Erickson will be the featured speaker. The cost of the luncheon is $30 and is by reservation only.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote. Please join us to hear how you can get involved in the 2020 election campaigns and the celebration of our right to vote. Friends of Fort Fremont holding membership meeting

The Friends of Fort Fremont will hold their annual membership meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in the St. Helena Branch Library Large Conference Room. The agenda will include accomplishments of the past year, the status of the Interpretive Center, upcoming events and election of officers and directors.

Members, guests, and the public are cordially invited. Light refreshments will be served.

New episode of Coastal Kingdom features local tidal creeks

A new episode of The County Channel’s Emmy Award-winning nature series, Coastal Kingdom spotlights some of the fish and other animals that inhabit our tidal creeks. Join us as we uncover longnose gar, blue crabs, stingrays, and a variety of other fish species that live around our docks and in shallow
tidal zones.

Coastal Kingdom is hosted by naturalist and educator Tony Mills of Spring Island and is a production partnership between The LowCountry Institute and The County Channel.

Coastal Kingdom airs live Wednesday nights at 8 p.m., Saturdays at noon and Sundays at 8 p.m. on Comcast Ch. 2, Hargray Chs. 9 and 113, and Spectrum Ch. 1304. Viewers can also watch programming live and on-demand at The County Channel’s website at www.beaufortcountysc.gov. Coastal Kingdom also airs on South Carolina ETV and the South Carolina Channel.

Beaufort Digital Corridor hosting seminar on Technology Product Development

The Beaufort Digital Corridor is hosting an informational seminar at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 on Technology Product Development Training for entrepreneurs who have a technology product idea that has scalable potential.

If your idea is selected, monies from the grant will go toward teaching you product development- accelerating your product idea.

Trainers will stay after the one-hour seminar until 7:30 p.m. to answer any specific questions. Open to BASEcamp residents, especially our startups, BDC members, and the public – including college and university students.

Outstanding military family to be honored Thursday

The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce and MCAS Beaufort will host a base briefing at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 for the presentation of the Tri-Command Outstanding Military Family award. The ceremony will take place at the Officer’s Club and light refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by Atlantic Marine Corps Communities at Tri-Command.

SCETV gets grant for Reconstruction project

South Carolina ETV (SCETV) has received a $296,257 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support its “Reconstruction 360” project. The project includes the development of an immersive website and mobile application.

“Reconstruction 360” complements “Reconstruction: America After the Civil War,” a PBS documentary series which premiered in 2019 and was produced by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Intended for the general public, students and educators, “Reconstruction 360” will use 360° videos and short documentary films to shed light on the Reconstruction era.
