From the time second-ranked Barnwell returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, Whale Branch was overmatched in a 49-6 home loss Friday.
The Warriors couldn’t slow down Barnwell’s powerful rushing attack, as the Warhorses rolled up 314 yards on the ground. Jamari Chisolm rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, and Craig Pender added two touchdown passes to Ena Bynum.
Whale Branch pulled within 14-6 on Jadon Grant’s 3-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but the Warhorses tacked on two more touchdowns before halftime to take a 28-6 lead to the break.
Barnwell outscored the Warriors 21-0 in the second half, as Whale Branch struggled to move the ball. De’Arius Hazel rushed for 93 yards on eight carries, and Grant added 61 yards and a TD on 14 attempts, but the Warhorses bottled up speedy quarterback Jaylen Reeves.
The Warriors (4-2, 0-2) host Allendale-Fairfax on Friday.
