Beaufort League of Women voters to talk climate
The League of Women Voters of Beaufort will host a presentation and discussion at 6 p.m. today by the non-profit group, the Citizen’s Climate Lobby at Beth Israel Synagogue regarding the Energy Innovation Act (H.R. 763).

Lady’s Island Middle School robotics featured
The Lady’s Island Middle School 8th Grade Robotics Team will be featured at April’s Fridays @ the Corridor event. The hour-long event will take place at 8 a.m. Friday at the Beaufort Digital Corridor’s BASEcamp at 500 Carteret Street.
Doors will open at 7:30 a.m., and free parking will be available until 11 a.m.
The team, which won the Excellence Award at the VEX state championship, will be one of three S.C. teams representing S.C. at the VEX World Championships to be held April 24-27 in Louisville, Ky.

Young Life trivia night a success
More than 250 people attended the fourth annual William Trask and Holly Konoza Trivia Night fundraiser on Saturday, April 6 in support of Beaufort Young Life, a non-profit organization that serves hundreds of area teens. Honoring Beaufortonians Holly Konoza and William Trask, who founded Beaufort Young Life in 2006, this year’s event grossed more than $30,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships and a silent auction. It is the most successful Young Life event of the year, according to area director, Andrew Lancaster. Beaufort lawyer Twombley honored again
J. Ashley Twombley – a founding partner of Beaufort’s Twenge & Twombley Law Firm – has been recognized as one of the South Carolina Super Lawyers for 2019 in the practice area of serious personal injury.
“It is gratifying to again receive this recognition for our hard work in helping South Carolinians who have had their lives disrupted by personal injuries,” Twombley said in a release. “It would not be possible without the help of my dedicated staff.”
This is Twombley’s fifth year being recognized as a Super Lawyer, starting in 2015. Before that, he was named as a Rising Star in 2013. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Clarendon, Bay Pines roads being repaired this week
Blythe Construction will perform repairs on Clarendon and Bay Pines Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. this week.
The work on Clarendon Road will be between mile marker 0.20 and 1.06. On Bay Pines Road, it will be from mile marker 0 to 1.64.

SCDNR outdoor writing contest deadline April 30
The deadline to enter the 2019 South Carolina Wildlife magazine outdoor writing contest is 5 p.m. on April 30. South Carolina Wildlife’s essay contest aims to feature the best college and high school nature writing.
Essays should be nonfiction, with a focus on the outdoors, and between 800 and 1,500 words. The winner will receive a $250 prize, made possible by the Harry Hampton Wildlife Fund, and publication on the SouthCarolinaWild.org website and in South Carolina Wildlife magazine during 2019. The top five submissions will be featured on SouthCarolinaWild.org.
The contest is open to currently enrolled college and high school students. SCW only accepts original, unpublished work.
All submissions should be double-spaced in twelve point Times New Roman font. Finally, please include a cover page with your name, address, email, phone number and high school or university. Garden clubs hosting horticulture show
The Beaufort Council of Garden Clubs will hold a horticulture specialty show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 at Tabby Place, 913 Port Republic Street in Beaufort.
The event is free to the public. In addition to the horticultural exhibits, the show also will include a variety of botanical arts, educational exhibits and photography.
The Beaufort Council of Garden Clubs includes seven local garden clubs: The Beaufort Garden Victoria Bergesen Club, Camelia Garden Club, Dataw Garden Club, Lady’s Island Garden Club, Palmetto Garden Club, Royal Pines Garden Club and Sea Islands Garden Club.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit entries either through their garden clubs or by reaching out to Victoria Bergensen at victoriabergesen@gmail.com.
