Halloween is just around the corner, and there are some events going on around town to celebrate the spooky holiday.
• Ghostly spirits are expected to take over downtown Beaufort while the Exchange Club hosts its 24th annual Ghost Tours. There will be carriage rides or walking tours through Beaufort’s Historic District while listening to haunting tales of the area. Tours last about an hour and will run in the evenings of Oct. 28-30.
Walking tour tickets are $12 for all ages and carriage tours are $12 for children ages 3-11 and $22 for adults. All children must be accompanied by an adult. New this year is a pet- and stroller-friendly walking tour leaving each night at 6:40 p.m.

• Trick-or-treating will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in downtown Beaufort. This fun Beaufort tradition is free and open to the public. Children up to 12 years old can visit more than 65 businesses along Bay Street and beyond for “treats.” The following streets will be closed to automobile traffic from 4:15-6 p.m.: Bay Street (from Newcastle to Carteret streets) and a portion of Port Republic Street (from Charles to Scott streets).
• There will be a free costume party at Beaufort MMA from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The party will include martial arts and costume-related games and activities, some snack foods and treats.
• A Halloween party will be held from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Okatie Ale House at 25 William Pope Court in Bluffton. There will be food, drinks, music and a costume contest.
• The 2nd Annual Yappy Hour will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at 933A Paris Ave. in Port Royal. There will be a four-legged friend costume contest and prizes.
• Trunk or Treat will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Waters Edge United Methodist Church at 415 Sams Point Road in Beaufort. There will be treats and a prize will be awarded for the best Bible-themed costume.
• A Halloween Harvest Festival and Trick-Or-Treat will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Tanger Outlets in Bluffton. This will be a great afternoon of “frightful fun” games, activities and contests for families, especially children ages 12 and under. The Coastal Discovery Museum and The Sandbox will also be on hand to share exciting facts about bats and make craft projects. Festivities will take place in the courtyard near Shopper Services at Tanger 2 and trick-or-treating will take place at both centers.
• John Carpenter’s movie “Halloween” will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 at the USCB Center for the Arts at 801 Carteret St. See the film that defined a genre and launched an iconic franchise the way it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. Tickets are $6.
