Dolphins split with 4A foes

Battery Creek’s wrestling team split a pair of duals with Class 4A foes Wednesday, beating Bluffton 48-29 and falling 59-17 to Hilton Head High.

Bradley Smith was the only Dolphin to pick up two victories and one of eight Creek wrestlers to record a pin in the win over the Bobcats.

Sebastian Sanchez, Nate Gallego, Hunter Smith, Elmer Linares, Sam Degroat, Gunnar Degroat, and

Alex Crossman also pinned their Bluffton opponents to propel the Dolphins to a strong non-region win.

Robbie McManigle and Dreshaun Brown joined Bradley Smith in picking up wins against the Seahawks.

The Dolphins host the Region 8-3A dual tournament on Saturday.

Phares, Simmons lead Eagles in double dual

A depleted Beaufort High team missing four starters dropped a pair of matches Saturday, falling 60-16 to host Hilton Head High and 49-28 to Brookland-Cayce.

Colton Phares and Jeremiah Simmons pinned both of their opponents to provide the highlights for the Eagles. Aidan Holt also picked up his first pin of the season against Brookland-Cayce, and Peter Adam Burvenich earned a major decision against the Seahawks.

The Eagles were scheduled to travel to Lucy Beckham for a Region 7-4A match Wednesday.

Golden Warriors take down War Hawks

John Paul II’s wrestling team won all seven contested matches, including four pins, to roll to a 45-24 win over visiting Colleton Prep on Friday.

Steven Schidrich, Jack Brock, Angel Perez, and Jonathan Field all recorded pins for the Golden Warriors, while Carson Lonz, Oliver Witkowski, and Noah Schickler won by decision.

Colleton Prep’s scoring came from four forfeits, while JPII benefited from two forfeits and both teams forfeited one weight class.

Both teams are scheduled to compete in the SCISA state dual on Feb. 6 at Hammond School in Columbia.
