The movies scheduled for this week (Friday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 7) at the Highway 21 Drive-In are The Little Mermaid (PG-13, 8:45 p.m.) and Boogeyman (PG-13, 11:10 p.m.) on Screen 1; Spider-man Across The Spider-verse (PG, 8:45 p.m.) and Super Mario Bros Movie (PG, 11:05 p.m.) on Screen 2; and Guardians Of The Galaxy (PG, 8:45 p.m.) and Fast X (PG-13, 11:05 p.m.) on Screen 3 (Friday and Saturday).

Junior Building Detectives Summer Camp

Historic Beaufort Foundation presents “Junior Building Detectives,” focusing on camp participants solving the mysteries of history by learning about local architecture. The summer camp, hosted in Bay Street’s historic John Mark Verdier House which dates to about 1804, will teach campers the basics of historic architecture and preservation. Campers will learn how buildings change over time, the meaning behind architectural features, and the connection of historic buildings to our community. They’ll do this through hands-on activities, walks around downtown Beaufort, arts-and-crafts projects, experiments in building science, and more. At the end of the program, campers will participate in creating a building and presenting their design to the class and parents/guardians. Lady’s Island Garden Club invites you to take a meandering walk through the Historic “Old Point” and enjoy some unique and noteworthy trees. The “Walk” takes about an hour, is a little over a mile starting at the corner of Craven & Carteret streets in Morrall Park and concluding in Waterfront Park. 13th Annual Beaufort Twilight Run

The BTR’s mission is to host a fun, competitive and memorable annual event for Beaufort to benefit Riverview Charter School – a free public charter school open to Beaufort County kindergarten through 8th-grade students. With the first event beginning at 3:30 p.m., BTR offers six options for runners and walkers at all levels including a signature 13.1 Mile Beaufort Challenge (5K Run + 10 Mile), 10 Mile Run, 8K Run, 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Youth Run, and Kids’ Fun Run. The BTR is one of two events in South Carolina offering a 10-mile run. All courses are flat and spectator-friendly, offering beautiful marsh views under shaded live-oak canopies. Bear Island Field Trip
8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bear Island Wildlife Management Area check station. Enjoy a tour of 12,000-acre Bear Island with retired DNR veterinarian and ACE Basin Stewardship Coordinator Al Segars and naturalists Beek Webb and Ernie Wiggers. Group will meet at Bear Island check station for introductory briefing followed by an open-air-wagon property tour. Participants should bring binoculars, lunch/drink and dress for outdoor weather of the day. Group will discuss (and look for) both resident and migratory species (game and non-game) and the importance of areas like Bear Island WMA to these animals. Wiggers will discuss the importance of rice culture to Bear Island WMA and other ACE Basin protected properties. Wintering Tundra Swans should still be around. Space is limited.
