Veteran of the Week – Eric Greene

Beaufort’s Eric Greene, 56, joined the United States Army in 1988. After Basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., he trained in Artillery and as a Scout. His first assignment was for two years at Fulda, Germany. He was then transferred to Fort Riley, Kan., from which he deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm, where he served as a Scout for tank companies. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service in combat. He returned to the States and was separated in late 1991 so he could use the GI Bill to attend DeVry Institute in Atlanta. He earned a BS degree in accounting and went on to work in that field for 15 years in Atlanta and New York State. He has one daughter, who served in the Navy and is now earning a degree in Cyber Security. Today he works as a private/personal chef in the Lowcountry.
