VETERAN OF THE WEEK – CHUCK KNAPP

Beaufort’s Chuck Knapp, 84, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Erie, Pa., in 1954. He served several years in Motor Transport before retraining as an Aviation Mechanic. He first saw service in Beaufort in 1960 at MCAS Beaufort. After several deployments he was in Chu-Lai, Vietnam during the Tet Offensive, after which he was stationed in Yuma, Cherry Point, Iwakuni and Norfolk before returning to MCAS Beaufort where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1979. He later worked for Gulfstream in Savannah and again at MCAS before finishing his active working life in 2018 at 81 years old.
