A traffic stop in Burton resulted in a pursuit, a crash, and an arrest for Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies last week.
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, a traffic stop conducted by BCSO deputies led to a vehicle pursuit and the arrest of 65-year-old Robert Leroy Washington, who now faces multiple charges, including Driving Under Suspension and Receiving Stolen Goods.
According to the BCSO, at approximately 10:44 p.m., a deputy patrolling the area of Trask Parkway and Parker Drive observed a silver sedan displaying an expired South Carolina temporary registration. A traffic stop was initiated near Trask Parkway and Glass Road. During the stop, a male passenger exited the vehicle unexpectedly, and the driver, later identified as Washington, provided a false name and claimed not to have a license.
As deputies continued their investigation and backup units arrived, Washington fled the scene in the vehicle, prompting a brief pursuit. The chase ended when the car crashed on Bay Pines Road near Parker Drive.
Washington was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital following the crash and was later booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center. He is charged with:
- Receiving Stolen Goods More Than $10,000;
- Driving Under Suspension, 3rd offense;
- Habitual Offender;
- Improper Vehicle License;
- Giving False Information to Law Enforcement; and
- Failure to Stop for Blue Lights.
