Beaufort County Council has announced that it has have organized a task force of council members to study and recommend procedures surrounding communications and transparency.
Councilman Michael Covert has been appointed by Council Chairman Stu Rodman to serve as the Chairman of the newly created Communications and Transparency Task Force of Beaufort County Council.
Serving along with Covert will be Council members Gerald Dawson, Chris Hervochon, York Glover Sr., and Mark Lawson. Clerk of Council Sarah Brock and an appointee form the county administration will also serve.
The task force has been created due to the overwhelming response over the last few months surrounding the issue of transparency on Beaufort County Council.
“Accountability and transparency are the foundations of a democracy,” Covert said in a release. “The citizens of Beaufort County have a distinct right and privilege to know exactly what their government is doing and through transparency of such, we, as publicly elected officials, can be held accountable.”
The meetings will be publicly announced and held in open session. All members of the public are welcome to attend. Covert can be reached at mcovert@bcgov.net or 843-305-0600.
