City launches Downtown Projects page

From staff reports

The City of Beaufort has added a page on its website devoted to the status of downtown commercial projects that are in various stages of the approval process.

All such projects must go through an approval process that includes review by the City’s Planning Department staff as well as the Historic District Review Board. This five-member board reviews and must take action on applications requiring Major Certificates of Appropriateness for demolition, new construction, renovation, and rehabilitation on properties in the Historic District (this includes downtown Beaufort). The board and staff use the Beaufort Development Code, the Northwest Quadrant Design Guidelines, the Beaufort Preservation Manual and the Supplement for guidance.

“With all the interest in downtown development in Beaufort, we wanted to make sure that our residents and businesses had access to accurate and current information,” City Manager Bill Prokop said in a news release. “This page will allow people to get that information easily.”

The page can be found at http://www.cityofbeaufort.org/601/Downtown-Projects.
