Beaufort 51, James Island 49: The Eagles (6-5) got back over the .500 mark with a hard-fought home win over a former region rival thanks to a 21-point night from Naiim Pope and a big all-around performance from AJ Newton. 

Amani Cleckley added 10 points and six assists, and Newton had eight points, nine rebounds, and provided stellar post defense in an impressive non-region win. The Eagles travel to Ashley Ridge on Jan. 2.

May River 87, Beaufort Academy 26: Matthieu Moukanda scored on the first possession of the second quarter to tie it at 12, but the Sharks hit a hot streak and never looked back, rolling to a rout. Moukanda had 10 points for BA (1-4), while Gage Duncan scored 20 to lead the Sharks.

Hampton Co. 69, Battery Creek 54: The Dolphins took a two-point lead to halftime and took a one-point advantage early in the fourth quarter before the Hurricanes pulled away in the final period. Ethan White scored 12 points and Que Williams and Alizjah Mathis each had nine for Battery Creek (6-4), which plays in the Sweet 16 at Orangeburg-Wilkinson this week.

Mighty Lions go 0-3: Holy Trinity’s boys went 0-3 at the Holly Hill Tournament last week, falling 55-34 to Calhoun Academy, 66-35 to Cross Schools, and 55-23 to the host Raiders to drop to 0-7 on the season.
