Two men are dead, and a third victim was injured after a shooting in Beaufort on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Beaufort residents Ashi Mitchell and DaRhon Brooks, both 18 years old, were killed in the incident according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
Both were employees of Walmart, according to posts made by family and friends on Facebook.
The third victim was treated for injuries but has not been identified and there is no additional information available about the victim’s condition.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Parris Island Gateway and Trask Parkway around 10:20 p.m., according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
The Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after there were reports of gunfire, quickly followed by reports of a vehicle fire in the 800 block of Ribaut Road in Beaufort.
It was determined that the driver crashed the car while heading to the hospital after fleeing the scene of the shooting.
All three of the victims were in the same vehicle and it caught fire with them inside. Beaufort/Port Royal Firefighters pulled the victims from the car and extinguished the fire.
The coroner’s office said that both Mitchell and Brooks died because of their gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and is ongoing.
