Coming into the 2021 season, it was clear that Beaufort High’s offense was on a high level. On Friday night, the defense showed it could dominate, too.
Eamon Smalls and company put together a remarkable performance on the road at Effingham County (Ga.), holding the Rebels to just three points on the night in a 24-3 victory.
The Eagles got a jolt from the kicking unit to open the scoring, as Joe Caparola drilled an impressive 47-yard field goal to put the visitors on the board. After a slow offensive start, Tyler Haley found his mojo in the second half, finding Zyrin Odom for an explosive 65-yard touchdown pass to grab a 10-3 lead.
It was all Eagles from then on, as Haley hooked up with the electric Kacy Fields for a 35-yard TD on a screen before Caleb Ulmer punched in a 4-yard run to cap off the night.
Beaufort’s defense was outstanding, holding the opposing offense out of the end zone for the second straight week.
Beaufort (2-0) battles its third straight Georgia opponent in a home matchup with Benedictine on Friday.
