Hopeful Horizons holds 6th Annual Race4Love 5k

Hopeful Horizons announces the 6th annual Race4Love benefiting local survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. This 5K run/walk will be held on Cat Island on Saturday, February 10, beginning at 9 a.m. Early registration is encouraged and is available through Race4Love.com. This family friendly event offers a pleasant trip through the scenic neighborhoods of Cat Island.

The Race4Love has its origins in the Tate/Coursen Memorial Walk/Run that was organized by Marie Tate and held in January 2012. The event honored Lance Cpl. Dana Tate and Cpl. Dyke “A.J.” Coursen, two Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputies who were killed when responding to a domestic violence call in 2002. In 2013, the event moved to the weekend closest to Valentine’s Day and adopted the “Race4Love” name. Marie Tate, Lance Cpl. Dana Tate’s widow, is still actively involved in the event six years later. Race participants pass a tribute to Lance Cpl. Dana Tate at the “Tate Turnaround,” sponsored by Marie Tate, just before the home stretch on Islands Causeway.

“We are so grateful to Marie Tate, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s office and all the sponsors and Race4Love participants that are helping us end abuse and change lives in the Lowcountry,” said Kristin Dubrowski, COO of Hopeful Horizons. “Support of this event helps to ensure that Hopeful Horizons’ life-saving services are available free of charge for all those in need.”

Fees are $25 for the run and $20 for the walk and will increase to $30/$25 for race day registration, which opens at 8 a.m. at the event. Group discounts are available. The race will start near Sanctuary Golf Course located at 8 Waveland Avenue in Beaufort. Prizes will be given to the top two adult male and female overall, the top male and female under 18 and medals will go to the top three in each age division. All children 9 and under will receive medals. Prizes will also be awarded for the best Valentine’s Day themed outfit/costume, first stroller and the speediest dog. Grounded Running is providing event management and professional timing complete with finish line photography.
