Christmas Bike Drive organized for Boys & Girls Club children

From staff reports

PORT ROYAL — Christmas will be here before we know it, and one local resident has set her sights on making this holiday season extra special for children in our community.

Amber Hewitt of Amber’s Eye Photography and The Lowcountry Ladies – Women Supporting Women Group has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry with the goal of ensuring every child at the Boys & Girls Club of the Lowcountry – St. Helena Club receives a brand-new bicycle this Christmas.

“Our goal is simple,” Hewitt said. “We want to collect 50 (20-24 inch) bikes, enough for every child at the St. Helena Club. Once we reach that goal, we’ll continue collecting for other Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the Lowcountry.”

The bikes need to be collected no later than Dec. 1, 2025, and will be delivered during the Club’s Christmas party in December, spreading holiday cheer and giving each child a gift to remember.

To make it easy for the community to get involved, Hewitt has created an Amazon Wish List where donors can purchase bikes directly at bit.ly/3Wo4rrd.

Bikes can also be delivered to Port Royal Town Hall, and pick-up arrangements may be available upon request.

“This project is about more than just giving bikes,” Hewitt said. “It’s about giving these children a sense of joy, independence, and the experience of knowing that their community cares.”

The effort is fully community-driven, and every donation, whether big or small, brings the initiative one step closer to success.

Together, we can make this Christmas a truly special one for the children of the Lowcountry.
